Wrinkle Relaxing Treatments

Wrinkle Relaxing Treatment is the term commonly used to describe the procedure of administering injections of Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox®) to treat lines and wrinkles on the face. This process temporarily relaxes the muscles, which leads to a reduction in the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Line Relaxing Treatment works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscle causing the lines and wrinkles, reducing the activity of that muscle.

We use Botox® for our Wrinkle Relaxing Treatment, which is manufactured by the Allergan Corporation and has been subject to stringent trials to ensure its safety. It was licensed in 2002 by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe frown lines in people aged 18 to 65.  In 2014 Allergan also obtained the licence to treat ‘Crows Feet’.

Wrinkle Relaxing Treatment has been successfully used to treat patients for a variety of conditions for over 20 years. Allergan has done extensive testing of Botox® (the treatment that we use) and deems it safe to use for cosmetic purposes.

Does it hurt?

It may sting slightly when the injection is administered but that will wear off quickly.

.

When will it start to work?

You will see the results from Wrinkle Relaxing Treatment within 3-4 days of treatment, but the effects can continue to improve for up to a month.

How long will it last?

Treatment lasts for approximately 4 months, but if you discontinue treatment, lines and wrinkles will re-appear and look as they did prior to treatment. Research has shown that prolonged use of Botox® Treatment can lead to the effects lasting longer.

Are there any side effects?

As with any medical procedure, Wrinkle Relaxing Treatment can cause side-effects.

Common side-effects are:

Bruising/pain at injection site

Swelling/redness/bleeding of the injection site

Headache, Nausea, Flu like symptoms

Temporary eyelid droop (blepharoptosis)

Localised infection

To lower the incidence of bruising try to avoid Aspirin, Ibuprofen and Vitamin E.

Dermal Fillers

As we age our bodies are under constant attack from the weather, the sun, pollution, fatigue, hormone changes and the natural aging process. As a result of ageing, the skin’s natural moisture retaining hyaluronic acid also declines. This inevitable moisture loss causes the lines, folds and creases around the mouth, nose, jaw, cheeks and lips, giving us an older and more tired image.

Dermal fillers can be used to improve the appearance of unwanted lines, creases and folds. Dermal fillers use natural products that mimic those lost from the skin to achieve natural results. The filler is used to smooth out and fill lines. By replacing the volume in these areas, skin will appear smoother and feel softer, giving an overall more youthful look.

The Juvéderm® ULTRA and Juvéderm® Vycross range of products replaces the lost hyaluronic acid, moisturising the skin from within and helping to improve elasticity and tone.  These fillers have the additional benefit of having a local anaesthetic already in the preparation, which leads to a more comfortable procedure and an overall more pleasant experience. The Juvéderm® range is our filler of choice.

Does it hurt?

Juvéderm® fillers have a local anaesthetic in them so pain is minimal, just a small sting initially. We will offer you a cold pack to try to reduce discomfort and bruising following injection.

When will it start to work?

Results will be seen immediately, however there may be swelling initially therefore we recommend full assessment of results is made 2 weeks following treatment.

How long will it last?

Juvéderm® fillers will last an average of 12-18 months.

Are there any side effects?
